Les Williams, New Member - "Imagine my surprise!   My wife started attending the First United Methodist Church in Kaufman a little over two years ago.   She had been searching for a church home for at least 24 years.   Finally, the day came when she decided to join the church and she asked if I would come and watch her make this commitment.   I knew how much it meant to her.   I had been raised in a good Christian home and been made to go to church throughout my youth.   The church I remembered was somber.   Everyone was very serious.   I remember learning about all the things I should not do; all the sinful acts; the things that would send me to hell for a certainty.   I also remember a distinct implication that other Christian denominations were somehow flawed.   When I attended the service at FUMC of Kaufman, I could not believe my eyes.   Everyone was smiling.   The church was filled with happy people, rejoicing, and praising God.   I kept coming back week after week and to my surprise, they stayed joyful.   They were happy to be there, and happy that I was there!   They sang praises to God, and I never had the feeling of being critically judged.   I finally took that step and formally joined.   It is a place where I can truly worship and praise Christ with joy in my heart."
